So this is 21, eh? (Actually I’m still writing this as a baby 20-year-old, but ya know).
I’m keeping this post uber short because I need to wake up early tomorrow, and sleep is everything to me lately (you’ll see down below hehe). Actually if I’m being totally honest, I was sure I wouldn’t get this post up in time for my birthday, but then I checked my phone notes and realized I had somehow racked up exactly 21 lessons over the past week as they came to me.
Now that’s serendipity!
So with merely an hour left of me being 20, here’s all the lessons I wanted to share with you that I’ve amassed thus far. As always, take what resonates, and leaves the rest. Just became something is true for me definitely does not make it true for you <3
Also, just for fun, here’s the list I made when I turned 20. (Ah the joy of having a blog!) I wasn’t shocked to see some things on that list that made it onto this one too. Some lessons you just have to keep learning over and over again. 🙂
21 things I learned by 21
Not everyone will like you, and that’s completely okay.
Change is a normal part of growth- it’s okay to let some things go during your evolution.
Don’t identify yourself too much with certain interests from your past that prevent you from developing new interests.
Be present. Really try to be exactly where you are at, soak it in, and appreciate. There will never be another moment quite like it.
Spending time with the right people will light you up and make you feel so you.
But that being said, all you need is inside yourself. Nothing can dim the light that shines within, and you can create the magic you crave by following that light.
An afternoon spent in a coffeeshop reading, people-watching, or just savoring your coffee is a simple pleasure that can change a whole day around.
Rest is so important to be your best self. Prioritize sleep because it’s seriously magical.
Loving kindness is the best policy toward yourself and others. Even when it’s hard, choose to be kind. Accept that you cannot change anyone, but you control how you react. You never know what someone is going through.
Find the magic in everything. You don’t need a crazy adventure, an unforgettable night, or a big trip to feel the magic. It’s all around.
A city is best explored on foot, through its bookshops and coffee shops.
Sometimes we all need a mid-week slice of cake for no reason at all.
Family is everything. Make time for them.
Friends are everything. Cherish them.
The best things happen without a plan. Follow the flow.
Travel is the most supreme method of finding adventure, stillness, and yourself. When we travel, we are truly present.
Slowing down is so important to appreciating where you’re at and making sure you are staying true to you.
Follow your heart, even if it leads you places you could have never expected.
We can’t always be flying high. When the negative emotions or events inevitably come, lean into them instead of resisting them, and I promise they will lose their grip on you.
More ease; less effort.
Spending time alone can be incredibly fun and rewarding; you are a much better companion than you give yourself credit for when you whip out your phone the moment you’re free.
Just curious, how many of you recounted them to make sure I got it right? 😉
But that’s all of ’em, and with that, I’m signing off to get a good night’s sleep and then go experience life as a fresh 21-year-old!
I love you all, and I wish you the most fantastic of Valentine’s Days, whether you’re flying solo or celebrating with a hunny. I’m off to London to celebrate my birthday with my gal pals tomorrow and then exploring more of the UK throughout the week, but I will definitely be on Instastories if you’re interested in following along!
Thank you for reading as always. I am infinitely grateful for you. <3
