Hey guys! I know it’s been a while since I skipped a Monday post, but I think you will understand why it was so necessary for me when you read this Thursday’s post. Spoiler alert: it’s all about going with the flow and not forcing myself to get anything “done” when it doesn’t feel right in that moment. Right now, it feels good to me to be creative and productive, but not at the expense of sacrificing my sanity and sense of balance.
Over the past week, I’ve gotten to a really good place. A much better place than I have been for most of the summer, to be honest. And all it took was a simple mindset shift.
I made this decision to kind of…let go. To stop worrying so much and efforting my way to every goal. To truly believe that I don’t actually need to accomplish any of the crazy goals I’ve set for myself, and though I really really want to, nothing will happen if I don’t. Which takes a lot of pressure off. Because that way my daily happiness and mood is not dependent on the percentage of my to-do list I got through that day. Rather, I’m focusing on doing what feels good, on slowing down, on spending less time being “productive” and more time going with the flow.
I’m still working through my to-do list daily, but I’m trying not to approach it from a place of anxiety and hustle, but rather from a place of intuition and wonder. So I’ve been exploring more. I’ve been finding new coffeeshops and doing work there, and those couple hours I spend on commuting to and fro are so worth it because I end up being so much more creative and, yes, productive sitting there than when I’m all alone at home.
I’ve been spending more spontaneous time with friends, reading instead of scrolling through my phone, and really embracing flow in every part of my life.
Here’s some things that have been happening in my life lately.
Roomie came to visit this past weekend, and we had a blast! We had the most delicious vegetarian brunch at ABCV (you all HAVE to go), then explored ABC Home (my heaven), then walked all the way uptown to Central Park. On the way, we stopped at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and ended up seeing a beautiful wedding! Then we walked to Levain Bakery for some heavenly cookies and sat on a stoop a few feet away and talked for hours. And finally we went home, cooked a lovely dinner (I made this coconut quinoa with roasted cauliflower recipe) and watched Leap Year. Which was so cheesy but also quite feel-good. 🙂 The next morning, we made these pancakes; Roomie made a delicious banana brûlée topping, and we topped it all off with TJ’s mixed nut butter. Oh and I made some french press coffee. Perfect Sunday morning
I watched Coco again, this time with my dad. I cried…again.
I worked at two coffeeshops last week– The Elk in Greenwich Village and Stonefruit in Williamsburg. They both have a lovely and quite unique vibe, and I absolutely loved getting work done there.
I am currently reading Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows AND Eat Pray Love at the same time (the former before bed and the latter on commutes), and I’m loving them! It feels like they are both exactly what I need right now, in very different ways. 🙂
I’m craving fresh veggies like whoa, but don’t want salads at all and am lacking any kind of inspiration for veggie-full dishes. I would love some recommendations 😉
I am studying for my group fitness certification, and it’s going quite a bit slower than I was expecting. Turns out it’s not that easy to just learn anatomy, and why do so many bones sound the same but are located in totally opposite parts of the body?!
This one’s kind of a cheat, but I’m currently working on a behind-the-scenes project that I will hopefully get to share very very soon. So stay tuned for an exciting announcement hopefully within the month! <3
And that’s life this July. Tell me what’s going on for you!

Mexican-y things —> baked sweet potato loaded with greens, tomatoes, onions, beans… or burrito bowl salads – some of my fave ways to get lots of veggies in and super easy.
You and your secret projects! Always something brewing in that brain of yours 🙂
I’m happy you’ve been feeling a new sense of letting go and going with flow. Letting go of the pressures we put upon ourselves can be a very hard thing to do. But that’s all they are – our own pressures. No one else has placed them on us. And they’re usually created without much rational behind them. Keep exploring those coffee shops 🙂
