Hey hey! It’s time for another meal and recipe roundup because we’ve been continuing to explore SF’s amazing food scene and also experimenting with lots of delicious recipes at home.
If you missed last week’s list, here it is. As always, drop a comment if you end up trying anything I’ve shared, or if you have some fave recent eats of your own.
Here we go!
Burger Bowl
I’ve been wanting to try this recipe for a long time, and I’m so glad I finally did. Upon trying it, both Alex and I unanimously agreed to add it to our regular dinner rotation. It’s basically exactly what it sounds like—a deconstructed burger in a bowl—similar to a burrito bowl (which I also love). The sauce MAKES this recipe, so definitely don’t skip it.
Arizmendi Bakery
I kept hearing amazing things about this bakery in Inner Sunset here in SF and finally ventured over when I had a half day a couple weeks ago. I was specifically on a mission to pick up their homemade pizza—they create a unique flavor every day—but couldn’t resist also picking up a couple baked goods. So we got the four cheese rosemary pizza, a cowboy cookie, and some special Lunar New Year almond cookies. Everything was unbelievably delicious, and the pizza was simply stellar. And this is coming from a New York girlie 😉 We happily devoured it two nights in a row with a simple green salad I whipped up for a side.
Snowbird
One of the coffeeshops I have been excited to check off my list for a while. It’s located right across the street from Arizmendi, so I had the perfect opportunity to try it out on my half day. I got an iced oat latte, and it was definitely really good, but I feel like the flavor profile of the espresso was super nutty and would have probably paired better with almond milk. Ah well, you live and learn. In any case, I definitely want to come back there and try some of their specialty drinks—I loved the vibes in the place, and it’s definitely worth trying again. I will say, though, they are only open until 1pm each day, so plan ahead!
Damn Fine Pizza
This was a recent date night, and I was super excited to try this place because the owners of this joint also own one of my favorite coffee shops in our area, Damn Fine Coffee. It’s super busy on weekends but we came early and only had to wait around 25 minutes for a table. Ummm OBSESSED. The pizzas are so delicious, the cocktails were *chef’s kiss*, and the vibes were immaculate. We will for sure be back. Highly recommend the sausage sage pizza WITH hot honey, and their warm kale salad is also not to be missed.
Arsicault
This is another extremely famous and popular bakery here in SF that’s actually most known for their croissants. To be perfectly honest, I was quite skeptical. This bakery constantly has a GIANT line, and as great as croissants are, I wasn’t sure any croissant would be worth waiting in line for over 20 minutes for. You guys. These were without a doubt the BEST croissants I’d ever had. What’s even crazier is my favorite flavors were their almond croissant and chocolate almond croissant, and I NEVER like almond croissants. Normally I really dislike that almond extract aftertaste, but these totally don’t have that. I can’t recommend this bakery highly enough, whether or not you’re a big croissant fan, I promise you won’t regret coming here. Just bring a friend or two and get several croissant flavors to try. The only item we weren’t crazy about here was the kouign-amman, but that’s not really their specialty anyway.
Saucy gochujang noodles with chicken
I wanted to make this recipe as soon as I saw it on the POY website, so I pretty immediately ordered gochujang sauce and procured all the other necessary ingredients. This came together SO quickly and easily and was incredibly satisfying and mouthwateringly delicious. Totally adding to the dinner rotation as well.
Baked maple salmon + roasted parmesan zucchini + roasted sesame asparagus
Always love a good baked salmon, and it went so well with these roasted veggies. Parm is really essential for roasted zucchini, too.
Not Latte
We tried this place the same day as Arsicault, and again, I was super skeptical. Their whole concept is they make lattes with real fruit inside, which as you can imagine, can definitely get weird. I tried the banana latte that came with real banana jam and whole milk, and I was quite pleasantly surprised at how delicious and satisfying this was. Definitely something I would have again!
Hook Fish
We’re lucky enough to live near this little joint that is known throughout SF for having the best fish tacos in the city. I came here with a friend and actually decided to get their poke plate that comes with fresh poke, rice, beans, avocado, and some veggies because that was sounding really good. And wow! I was so so impressed. The poke was some of the freshest and tastiest I’d ever had, and all the flavors were so delicious and satisfying. 100% warrants a return visit!
Peanut butter banana sourdough toast
Ending with something incredibly simple, but I couldn’t resist mentioning it. Ever since moving, I’ve added this to my regular breakfast rotation, and it’s been so freakin’ satisfying. There’s something about this combo that just always hits the spot, especially chased down with an iced oat latte from Damn Fine Coffee (I cannot resist). Sometimes I switch it up with jam instead of bananas, or chocolate hazelnut butter instead of peanut butter. Always delightful.
And that’s all for today. See ya next time! 🙂
