Hi hi! This What I Ate Wednesday is going to be chronicling my eats on Sunday, aka move-in day. This day was BUSAYYY, and in those kinds of days, I’m not ashamed to admit that “being healthy” kind of takes the back seat. (Heh, road trip puns…I’m sorry, I’ll stop)
I obviously did not work out on this day, and I also hadn’t worked out 4 of the 7 days. I was eating food that was convenient and quick to eat, and in the evening I went out with my friends to an Indian place, because it’s delicious and we haven’t seen each other in a while, and we wanted to celebrate the start of the new year. 🙂
So I hope this day serves as a good reminder to you that I am NOT perfect, nor do I want to be, with my healthy lifestyle. I have been in that place where a day like today would give me intense anxiety, and I would spend the entire day trying to think how to “make up for it” the following day.
Now, I treat a day like this as just…a day. Nothing more than 1/365th of my entire year, which really has no effect on my overall health. Yes, I still try to fuel my body with relatively nutritious foods, but I am not going crazy with it.
So here’s a day of eats in the life of a college student who is trying to move her entire life across hundreds of miles while retaining some sanity. 😉
Breakfast was my favorite greek yogurt bowl, which I’ve already rambled your ear off enough about, but just in case you haven’t seen this recipe before, I use a container of Fage greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons granola, a teaspoon each of chia seeds, hemp seeds, and cacao nibs, and a heaping spoonful of cacao powder. Then I slice in a banana, and mix ‘er up.
How cute is my pooddle Minnie? I’m going to miss that gal so much.
Midway through the trip to DC, we stopped at a rest stop and ate our packed lunches. I had made myself a PB & J using Ezekiel bread, my favorite Santa Cruz peanut butter, and raspberry jelly. I ate that with an unpictured apple and some delicious baby tomatoes.
I was pretty hungry when we arrived, so I scarfed down a Quest bar, and a few hours later I had this high-protein chocolate yogurt drink, which was the only thing my mom had packed that was uneaten. It wasn’t bad!
Sorry for the lack of picture; I sort of wolfed it down in the middle of packing, and I totally forgot to whip out my phone. #collegebrain
Finally, we decided to pause with unpacking (once the floor was somewhat visible again amidst all the boxes), and I went to dinner to Curry and Pie with some friends. It’s one of our favorite spots in Georgetown, and it’s a mix of Indian with pizza. I’ve never had their pizza, but I’ve heard great things!
I ordered the chicken korma for myself with a side salad instead of rice (the pictured rice is my friends’), and I also had a piece of naan ’cause their naan is bomb.
(Note: there is nothing wrong with rice. But I knew I’d had a pretty carb-heavy lunch, and I wanted to leave room for naan. My bod was craving more protein and fats over carbs, which is totally normal!)
It was so so nice to catch up with my friends. I’d seen most of them at various points during the summer, but it’s been a while, and it was simultaneously super weird and super natural to be reunited with them on campus.
I was feeling pretty anxious about coming back here, and I kept having flashbacks to certain uncomfortable experiences first semester freshman year, but as soon as I saw my friends, I felt right at home. Here’s to hoping this feeling continues 🙂
That’s it for today. Happy Wednesday, everyone, and meet me back here tomorrow to read about my August Faves. You don’t wanna miss it!
Love,
Nicole
