Happy What I Ate Wednesday!! Or just Happy Wednesday, for anyone unfamiliar with the What I Ate Wednesday weekly fiesta that happens in the health blogging world. 😉
I’ll be showing you my day of eats from Sunday, which actually ended up being a super fun day, with a whole lot of spontaneity and friend dates and unexpected plans.
I apologize in advance for my super weird meal timings on this day, but this is often how weekends go for me, college or not. I wake up pretty late, have breakfast during lunch time, snack away lunch time, and then have dinner.
Anyone else do that, or am I weird? Lemme know!
Either way, let’s jump right into my Sunday!
For breakfast, I had a planned friend date with Georgetown bestie (in case you don’t know yet, I have two best friends, one at Georgetown with me and one in Syracuse! Because I don’t mention names on the blog, they are referred to as Georgetown bestie and Syracuse bestie. Now that that’s out of the way…)
We went to a great spot near campus called Peacock Cafe, which we realized we’d been to just about a year ago. So we decided to make it a start-of-the-year tradition! 🙂
I had a very satisfying black coffee (where do you guys stand on the coffee debacle?) and the Peacock omelet, which contained ham, cheese, and mushrooms. I didn’t finish the whole plate, but I ate until I was satisfied. Also, their biscuits are not to be missed!
About an hour after breakfast, I pounded out this workout in the gym. I don’t usually work out Sundays, but I was feeling it, since I’d skipped Saturday, on account of literally laying in bed for 75% of the day since my body had apparently reached a new level of exhaustion. Fun stuff!
I was going to tack on a little lower body strength training, too, but this HIIT workout wiped me out, so I listened to my body, and called it a day. Thirty minutes of smart exercise is absolutely enough, and there is no set time that your workout “should” last for.
That banana and peanut butter were a great post-workout snack.
Here’s where I admit that I basically skipped straight ahead to dinner.
A few friends and I went to the nearby &Pizza, which if you aren’t familiar with it, is not to be missed! It’s kind of like Chipotle for pizza, only better.
You get to choose your dough, sauce, and toppings, and it’s thin crust.
I went with a whole grain crust with half spicy tomato sauce and half roasted vegetable sauce, topped with mushrooms, spinach, broccoli, and chicken. Plus fresh mozzarella and a fig balsamic sauce on top. DELISH!
I ate a little over half, and I usually save the rest for breakfast tomorrow, but I had to throw out my leftovers today because we had plans for the night, and carrying around a box of pizza wouldn’t be the most convenient thing. Boo, food waste, though 🙁
So one of my friends had told me about a National Symphony Orchestra concert on Capitol Lawn, and we were both super excited to go, except we were somehow under the impression that it was Monday afternoon.
Turns out it was actually Sunday evening, so we made the spontaneous decision to go right after dinner.
And it turned out to be a wonderful night. The Capitol gleamed beautifully in the dark, and the music was a mix of classical and folk, simultaneously joyous and emotional. I loved the energy in the air, too, that palpable sense of community and excitement that comes from watching something spectacular while surrounded by other humans who all decided to spend their evening in just the same way.
It’s one of my favorite things to experience. I definitely want to find more such events in DC and take advantage of the location of my school. I’m often a bit critical of DC, always comparing it to my beloved New York, but really this little city has a heck of a lot to offer that can’t be found anywhere else.
And when I came home, the snacking fest began because my body suddenly realized that it hadn’t really had enough to eat. Does this happen to anyone else? Like 10pm is when you’re suddenly attacked by the hunger demons, and your stomach becomes a bottomless pit.
This is why I should probably not snack through my meals…ah well.
So I had a serving of Trader Joe’s kettle corn.
And then I had some berries. Just FYI, this picture is leftovers; I ate much more than this hehe.
I finished off the night with carrots and hummus because #eatyourvegetables yo.
And that was my day of unconventional and spontaneous eats!
Linking up with Laura for this WIAW!
Best thing you guys ate recently?
Anyone else have weird eating habits like me?
Iced coffee or hot?

I usually end up eating breakfast at lunch, lunch at like 4-5 and dinner not till 8-8:30. That pizza looks amazing!

Literally my life. My friends all think I’m super weird.

No need to apologize! But yeah, I relate. I don’t sleep in very well–I just can’t–but when I do, I often end up eating breakfast late, a snack or two, and then basically an early dinner, and then in the evening I’m ravenous.
Yay for listening to your body on the workout. Thanks for the reminder that a quick workout is just as legitimate as a longer one!

Thank you for your comment Joyce! I’m definitely gonna try to be more mindful about my intake during the day on days like that, and as for working out, it’s definitely been a journey to get to this place.

Just discovered your blog! I’m also in DC and agree that the city has so much to do, but I often compare it to my hometown of New Orleans.
Iced coffee forever and always.
Yes to weird eating habits. Breakfast and lunch are pretty standard for me, but around dinnertime, I’m just not interested in food. I, of course, eat, but I’d rather dive face first into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Mint Cookie and call it a day. And I sometimes do. 😉

So happy to have you here! Haha omg I so relate; I’ve been known to like make banana bread and just have that for dinner because the prospect of eating a real dinner sounds so unappealing.Yeah, I’m definitely always on the hunt for more fun DC things!

I’m not in college, so I have no excuse… but I’m much more likely to eat like you than like a “normal” person. LOL! It all looks fab to me – especially that biscuit!
