Hello! How are you all doing? Can we talk about the fact that it’s October, and we’re LESS THAN 90 DAYS AWAY FROM THE NEW YEAR? Yeah, let’s just let that soak in…
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about some habits I want to implement before the year is over (because who has time to wait until Jan 1st?), and one of them is being more consistent with my creativity. What does this mean? I’m honestly not sure yet.
I want to be more intentional with my time and dedicate a set amount of time to work on my creative pursuits every day. Whether this means writing blog posts or drafting Instagram captions, or simply daydreaming and writing out ideas in my notebook as they come to me, I just want to make that space to ensure I don’t let this part of me fall to the wayside. It’s far too easy to busy myself with schoolwork or some unimportant administrative-type tasks and tell myself I “don’t have time” to do creative things right now. But of course I do have time; it’s just a matter of utilizing it wisely.
That’s a topic for a different day, though. Today I wanted to share a few things with you that I’m currently loving, and you might too!
The 4 Hour Work Week
I’m definitely slow on the uptake here as this book came out in 2009, but over the past year it’s been ALL OVER my radar. For some reason, every podcast I was listening to was mentioning it, and I kept randomly seeing it all around. I had a feeling it would be up my alley, so I finally gave in and ordered it in the very beginning of the school year. Well, I finally finished it (I had lots of time to read in Columbus!), and I absolutely LOVED it. I don’t think it’s necessarily for everyone, but if you’re one of those people who just can’t see themselves working in a traditional 9 to 5 for 40 years until you get to retire and “start enjoying your life,” or if you feel like that just can’t be all there is to life, this book is for you. It’s a really easy and fun read, and Tim Ferriss just seems like a really really cool dude.
I love that it not only gives the fluffy inspirational-type stories and quotes, but it is brimming with actual practical tools and advice to start changing your life right away. I know it definitely inspired me and if nothing else made me feel way less crazy about some of my more unorthodox dreams and life goals. 🙂
Hippeas
I LOVE HIPPEAS. I feel like I probably talked about these before on here, but I’m having a moment with them right now. My fave is the cheddar flavor, and I pretty much exclusively eat them dipped in hummus. BEST SNACK EVER.
Classic Movies
I recently watched the Princess Bride for the very first time (I know), and I adored it. I thought it was hilarious in this unique witty New York-humor way, and it was somehow sweet and precious without being cheesy. All the good vibes 🙂
Also, I watched Mean Girls on October 3rd (so on-point), and I realized it had somehow been over SIX YEARS since I’d last seen it. A true classic, as always. Sometimes, you just gotta go back to the basics. 🙂
The Best Meatloaf
I made my first meatloaf recently, and I used a pretty untraditional recipe, and I might just never make a regular meatloaf ever because this recipe blew me away. I’m not even much of a meat person, but this guy was moist, juicy, cheesy, and barbecuey. If you eat meat, please make this. I served it with some spiced roasted broccoli and cauliflower, and it was pure dinner perfection.
The Office
I love love love this show, and I think I’ve watched it through at least three times, but it’s been quite a few years since my last run. Recently, I felt the urge to start it again, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been blowing through the episodes because I watch one or two a day as I eat. I used to read blogs or go through my email as I ate, but then I realized this was sucking all my creative energy out. Lately, I haven’t been consuming as much educational/informational content and instead using that time for laughter or stillness, and it’s made the biggest difference in my mood and mental state. Plus I’m already feeling so much more clear and creative!
And that’s it for today! It’s 6:37pm on a Sunday, and I’m sitting in a coffeeshop where I’ve set up camp for the evening to pump out my “creative time.” Blog post done, now off to write down some ideas for future ones 🙂
Have a great week, loves!
