Why hello! How have you all been?
I hope you’re finding some ease and comfort in the everyday now that we’ve had a bit of time to get used to the so-called “new normal.” I think the hardest part is not knowing how long all of this is going to last, but on the flip side I think it encourages us all to be super present and living day to day.
I think many of us fall into the trap of living in the future, thinking in terms of 5-year plans and far-reaching goals and bucket lists. And though there’s nothing wrong with that, I think we sometimes forget to just savor and be in the here and now. With the current situation, though, it’s basically all we can do.
While thinking about how I can best serve you guys with this platform during this time, I figured the best I can really do is just tell you what I’m doing. It may not resonate with everyone, but my hope is always that if something doesn’t work for you, at least it might give you a new perspective or maybe just be a source of entertainment. 🙂 And if something does resonate, all the better!
I do have a post in the pipeline about general things I am currently doing to fill up my time, as there’s a surprisingly sizable amount of them. But for today I thought I’d throw it back to an old-school Day in the Life post…quarantine edition.
It’s funny, I think people’s days have never looked more similar across the board, what with self-isolation and the shutdown of most restaurants and stores. But at the same time, everyone has such variable experiences even within the fairly limited framework we are all currently operating in. With that, I would love to hear if your days are TOTALLY different from my own, or if there are some similarities! So let’s do this.
Day in The Life
8:30am – alarm rings. Get out of bed to turn it off and take my phone back to bed to do my 10 minute Insight meditation
8:45-9am – get ready for the day by putting on some comfy clothes, brushing teeth, etc. (as long as it’s not pajamas, I have a really low bar for acceptable clothes to wear these days :p )
9-10am – cozy back into bed and have a spontaneous journaling session. Sometimes my brain just feels totally overloaded with thoughts, and I know it’s time to dump them all onto paper STAT. Can anyone relate??
10am-1pm – WORK. I’m incredibly fortunate that my student on-campus job has allowed me to keep working remotely. It’s really nice to be getting some kind of income right now, and I’m very very grateful. While I work, I manage to throw together breakfast for my mom and myself (toast with almond butter, banana, and greek yogurt, with chia seeds sprinkled on top – TRY IT!). Plus French Roast coffee which feels like such a treat and makes every day feel like a weekend.
1-2pm – take a mental break by watching some Youtube videos in my queue and going through email (mostly reading blogs LOL)
2-3:15pm – CLASS. This particular lecture is not pre-recorded, like most of my others. We also need to keep our cameras on. So I try to look engaged and alive and not be distracted by various tabs I have open on my computer. Ah the trials and tribulations of Zoom.
3:30-4:30 – Have the BEST yoga sesh with a Yoga to Gain Perspective, followed by this Yoga for Creativity. Leaves me feeling super centered and blissed out.
4:30-5pm – Scarf down a snack of this chickpea cookie dough dip with an apple, plus some other random stuff I shovel in my face. Oh and some green tea.
5-6pm – Have an over-the-phone creative consulting session with an Internet friend/creative coach. It’s a REALLY good session that leaves me feeling heard and inspired. Creativity is something I really want to prioritize in this season of life, and she gives me some really great tips on how to do just that.
6-7pm – Go on a walk with my mom and dog. It’s twilight, my favorite time of day, and the sky looks like it was painted. The streets are peaceful and calm, and you honestly wouldn’t even know there’s a global crisis happening.
7-8pm – Snack some more while my mom cooks dinner. Meanwhile, I watch a pre-recorded lecture for another class I had today. I’m half-listening, but at least I’m kind of taking notes?
8-9pm – Dinnertime! Mom and I chat and watch How I Met Your Mother as we eat, and then I wash all the dishes that have accumulated over the day while jamming out to some Julia Michaels tunes.
9-11pm – FaceTime my boyfriend from the floor of my bathroom because 1) that’s where I get the best connection and 2) I have a very tiny apartment and want some privacy :p Also have dessert of more chickpea cookie dough (seriously guys, try it, it’s ADDICTING!)
11pm-12am – Get ready for bed, do my nightly journaling sesh, and then lights out! Alarm is set for 8am tomorrow.
And that was a day in the life! For the most part, most of my weekdays look a lot like this right now. Some days I have more class and less work, and some days I FaceTime some friends in the middle of the day. But overall what’s been keeping me sane is having things I need to accomplish and actually being motivated to do them, connecting with others, walks, movement, and some fun things (cooking, baking, playing guitar, etc.).
Thank you for being here, and stay well out there!
I’d love to hear how you are in the comments! Tell me what life looks like for you right now. <3

Aww thank you Karlee! Hope you enjoy the yoga (it’s my fave!), and best of luck to you too. That’s so funny that our days are similar; we’re obviously meant to be friends 😉
