Greetings, fellow humans. How goes it for you on day 1324235235 of quarantine? I kid…but it sure feels like that sometimes.
I promised you guys a post talking about what I’ve been doing generally over the past few weeks. I shared a day in the life with you last week, but of course not every day is the same, and there are certainly other things I’ve been keeping busy with that I did not mention there.
Is it normal to be really busy right now? I feel like I’m busier than a lot of other people, but less busy than I normally would be? It’s like, I have a lot to do, but I also have more time to spend on each task, so everything is just a little more spread out and laid-back, which is quite nice.
The truth is, I like being busy right now. Not so busy that I’m numbing out of my reality (trust me, it’s a fine line, and I teeter-totter on it daily), but busy enough that I feel a sense of purpose every day. Though of course I’ve had the occasional do absolutely nothing day, and those can be great too.
Here are some things I’ve been keeping myself busy with over the past days.
School
School has definitely been picking up quite a bit, as we’re now officially in the last month of classes, so finals are looming. Honestly, it’s really strange. I know I’m not alone in saying there is very little motivation to work as hard, and as the semester is drawing to a close, I can’t help but grieve everything that was supposed to be, but now cannot be. So school is a bit of a mental and emotional drain right now, but I’m still happy it gives me something concrete to focus my time and energy on.
Work
I work just 11 hours a week at my on-campus job, and though it’s not exactly super exciting, I really do appreciate it, now more than ever. I like that it gets me out of bed at a reasonable hour and gives me tasks I absolutely have to get done because I am accountable to someone else. This, in turn, helps me with motivation to do the above mentioned schoolwork. I feel like if I didn’t have this work commitment, it would be way too easy to sleep until noon every day and start foregoing my studies, which wouldn’t be good.
Hobbies
This one is a bit more touch and go and tends to vary day by day, but I am trying to incorporate hobbies and just-for-fun activities into every day so I don’t fall into the trap of just doing things I HAVE to do, if that makes sense. It feels really great to do things just for myself and my own joy, and if I get to share it with others, that’s awesome but is definitely not a necessity.
I tend to play it by ear and just do whatever calls me that day. Sometimes it’s sitting down and writing for an hour, and sometimes I pull out my guitar and mess around learning some new songs. Baking and cooking are also a frequent occurrence, and I’ve made quite a few awesome recipes lately that I will be sharing soon!
Facetime
This has been one of my favorite constants. FaceTiming a friend while getting some fresh air on my (safe, socially distanced) walk. It’s been really nice to have these virtual walking dates, and ironically, I now feel even closer to many of my friends. I think many people are experiencing this because we are all valuing connection right now more than ever and also just have a bit more time to spend intentionally connecting. It’s a pretty great side-effect of a crappy situation.
Movies
While I haven’t been reading too much (a few pages here and there), I’ve been loving movies. Especially with the Netflix party extension that’s currently getting quite a lot of buzz. It’s pretty fun to continue having movie nights with friends, since that’s one of my favorite things to do on a night in, and it’s fun to chat back and forth during the movie. Some great ones I’ve watched recently were Marriage Story, A King’s Speech, and I personally really loved To All The Boys I Loved Before parts 1 and 2 :p
Movement
Movement has been another constant in my life that I am incredibly grateful for. In addition to my walk (I stay very close to my house and basically just run laps . I’m still loving Blogilates and Fitness Blender, but I also love incorporating a few days of yoga when my body is asking for it (my favorites are Yoga with Adriene and Gayatri Yoga). And of course, there’s always at least one rest day in there! Just because we’re cooped up at home doesn’t mean our bodies no longer need to recuperate after workouts, especially if you’re working out intensely.
Every body is different, but I’m currently finding myself craving a sweaty workout about 2-3 times a week, a yoga flow 2x a week, at least one rest day, and then one wild-card day that usually consists of a solo dance party and/or Pilates. This is pretty much the same as what I was doing pre-quarantine, and my body tends to like this balance, but of course every week is different. Some weeks are more low-energy or my heart feels heavy, and then it’s all rest days and light yoga. Other weeks I’m really needing to kick some metaphorical butt. :p
The next post I have coming up is some things I’m currently loving because there are actually quite a few things making me really happy right now. So stay tuned for that!
As always, thank you so much for being here and following along. I appreciate you <3 Stay safe and healthy out there!
