Well. I am officially….moved in. My apartment is fully decked out, and I might do a little Instagram story tour, but I don’t really want to put pictures here because no matter how I take them, they don’t do the house justice.
To be honest, we were all slightly horrified when we first walked in. The condition of the apartment wasn’t…fantastic. But with a LOT of work and the interior decorating talent of my roomies, we got it to look quite lovely. Honestly, some twinkly lights, artsy records, and posters make everything so much better.
We still need to do just a tiny bit more; we are currently using Trader Joe’s bags as garbage cans because we haven’t bought trash cans for the rooms yet, but other than that, it’s feeling super homey.
I wanted to bring back Moments of Magic because there were a couple this past week I just wanted to share.
Fancy Family Dinner
So this was quite the experience. It wasn’t my family’s dinner actually; it was a good friend’s. His parents were celebrating that his siblings are going off to college, so they made reservations at this fancy place, and since the two siblings both have significant others, they let my friend just bring whoever he wanted. I ended up being available, and so I happily attended.
The whole experience was honestly a bit surreal in that I almost felt like part of the family at some points. Something about their dynamic really vibed with me, and there were several moments when I found myself wanting to freeze time so I could just sit there with them in that moment forever. I don’t talk about this on the blog really, but my parents got divorced when I was 13, which left me with a few wounds related to family that sometimes still sting. For some reason, being surrounded by their family, and just feeling the pure love around that table, brought a lot of things up that I wasn’t really expecting to feel. Nevertheless, or perhaps as a result, the whole evening did have an aura of magic.
Listening to Records
Moment two was when Roomie and I were sitting in a living room, both working on our laptops (I FINALLY had the urge to catch up on blog reading) but also chatting, and then she had the idea to turn on our housemate’s record player.
I don’t know if you guys ever listened to a record player, but it’s honestly incredible. It feels different somehow from regular music, and I’m not sure if it’s the sound quality or just the general fact of it being a record player in the 21st century, but having it on created this great chill vibe and just enhanced the whole feeling of this being OUR apartment.
Dinner and a Show at the New Apartment
This is another “holy crap we have our own apartment and are kinda sorta adults” moment. A couple nights ago, Friday night actually, we ordered some food in and invited some friends over to hang out. We ended up eating the food (with the records playing), then watching some Great British Baking Show (while I worked on this post), and then the night ended with all of us wrapped in blankets, our hair in buns, talking about different things we didn’t know about each other. It got really deep, and I’m sure you guys know there’s something magical about feeling connected with another person, especially when that involves deep talks late at night.
It was made even better because we have these giant windows in the living room through which we saw all these underclassmen heading to parties, and we were all sitting there like a bunch of super content grandmas hehe. 😀
Coffee Date Catch Ups
Coffee is magical as is, but when coupled with catching up with a dear friend whom I hadn’t seen all summer, it’s even more so. For those of you who have been reading for a while, you’ll remember my Monday coffee dates with a friend, and this was that friend. So happy we’re reinstating those this summer because they always brighten my week.
I highly encourage you guys to make ongoing plans with friends, so that you have something to look forward to every week. It’s also a great way to make sure you stay caught up and connected. 🙂
That’s about it! Just a small little update for you guys for how I’m doing as I settle in here. So far, it’s a lot of Target runs, random small apartment issues, and generally figuring out how to adult-ish. The next thing I need to think about is figuring out some kind of plan for keeping up with the blog, podcast, and my fitness certification study process while also devoting time and attention to my studies, work, and friendships. Definitely going to be a juggling process, but I’m weirdly excited for it. And I’m even more excited to have you all along for the ride. 🙂
Have a lovely Monday! <3

Moving in is so fun! There’s always that period where there are no garbage bins… or you are eating out of tupperware… or sleeping on the floor (sounds like you’re a bit past this one)…. its messy but so special!
So glad you are enjoying some relaxing roommate time as well as getting back to your coffee dates. Welcome back! – on behalf of your school life. I think it’s very happy to have you.

I love the concept of “Moments of Magic”, and I enjoyed reading about yours from this week. I grew up listening to a record player, so your comment about that made me smile! 🙂

Congrats on the apartment! The nosy person that I am, I would love an Insta story tour, if and when you decide to do one. Twinkly lights, records and posters make EVERYTHING better.
What you wrote about that family dinner–all the feels. Thanks for sharing. <3 Right before I left for school, my family and I spent the day with some family friends and seriously, all we did all day was sit around in their living room on the floor eating delicious food and talking. Definitely magical.
All these magical moments sound lovely.
