G’day! Happy Hump Day!
I’m super pumped today because tomorrow I’m schlepping off to Boston to visit my wonderful college roommate. She actually lives in a small town outside of Boston, so we’re planning on exploring Boston, her hometown, and also go on a day trip to either Cape Cod or Nantucket (the part I’m most excited about!)
I’ve actually never been to a real beach town, but for some reason I feel like I would absolutely adore it.
Definitely expect a post recapping that trip!
Today I’m recapping my day of eats on Monday. Pretty weird day because my work schedule was kinda random, and I spent the first half of the day hanging out with a friend whom I hadn’t seen in quite a while.
We were supposed to just grab breakfast, but we ended up doing a lot of walking around because I had to be at work later than I thought.
For breakfast, we went to The Smith in Lincoln Square. I’d only ever been to The Smith in Midtown and only for dinner (try their potato chips with blue cheese, you’ll thank me later!), but their menu looked pretty good!
I went with the ranchero scramble minus tortillas (it was eggs, cheddar cheese, black beans, and avocado.) Oh and an iced coffee with soy obvi.
I cleaned the plate because it was really good, and I was next level STARVING.
My friend and I walked around for a while chatting and basking in that pleasant July NYC heat (jk, the sun feels like a million demons dancing on your skin).
I had to come to work for an hour and then return a couple hours later, so after finishing the first hour I stopped by a gym juice bar and got myself a super delicious Sweet Potato Pie protein smoothie (sweet potato, almond butter, whey protein, almond milk, cinnamon, ice). I know I know, sweet potatoes in a smoothie?! I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t already once made a similar creation in my own blender…
Trust me, it’s delish! It actually tastes like sweet potato pie! Not that I’ve ever had that…but I’ve had pumpkin pie, and it’s pretty similar except with more of a sweet potato vibe…I’m not making any sense, am I? Moving on!
I paired that with a slice of banana bread that I had packed with me, and I ate both of those while working on this post and some social media stuff.
This was at about 3pm.
I guess that was lunch? #balance
Those two actually really filled me up, so I was pretty much good until the train ride home, which is when I busted out an (unpictured) chocolate chunk Quest bar (seriously been LOVING these lately).
Then I did an awesome workout using this video for my HIIT and this one for upper body. I love pairing HIIT together with strength and then doing something more low key on other days to recover. If I was interchanging strength with HIIT every day, my body wouldn’t have enough time to rest, and I could risk injury or overtraining. No bueno.
I actually had a phenomenal workout! I don’t know if it was the Quest bar, or more likely, the fact that I’d only done HIIT/strength once last week, took 3 rest days, and did Barre the rest of the days, but I was lifting heavier than ever, and jumping higher and more explosively than I usually can manage after a full day of being out and about. I’ll take it!
Just goes to show that sometimes a little rest can make a world of difference in your strength and endurance levels!
After dinner, it was time to refuel. I quickly made myself this toast, and while I was prepping that, I snacked on a bulbous green tomato and a chocolate covered Brazil nut because it was there, and I was curious to try it. 😉
After the toast, I wasn’t quite satisfied (I usually eat that toast for breakfast, not dinner), so I followed it up with a small piece of smoked salmon and some carrots with hummus.
Oh, and half a slice of banana bread that I threw in my mouth before I remembered to take a pic.
And of course a Vanilla Comoro tea with almond milk for a nightcap.
Peep all my dumbbells in the backdrop. Gains, bruh. #swolelife
LOL I’ll stop now.
That’s all, loves. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
Xoxo,
Nicole
